The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) is dismayed at Yahoo and Ninja Van for having initiated retrenchment exercises on 29 April 2024 and 30 April 2024 respectively, just before May Day, a day meant to celebrate the contributions of workers towards Singapore’s economy. Both companies are not unionised. We understand that companies do need to undergo restructuring exercises from time to time, but they should be considerate about the timing of such exercises and to avoid doing exercises during such periods.

NTUC’s affiliated unions, Creative Media and Publishing Union (CMPU) and Supply Chain Employees’ Union Singapore (SCEU) will be reaching out to General Branch members to provide support for workers who may be affected.

In the event of retrenchment, companies must ensure openness, transparency and consultation with unions and workers, and observe the guiding principles outlined in NTUC’s Fair Retrenchment Framework (24 July 2020) and the Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower and Responsible Retrenchment.

NTUC would like to assure affected workers that you are our priority so please approach the following unions for assistance:
For affected workers with Yahoo, please contact CMPU at 6213 8510 (during office hours) or via email at cmpu@ntuc.org.sg.
For affected workers with Ninja Van, please contact SCEU at 6213 8112 (during office hours) or via email at SCEU@ntuc.org.sg.
