Some 63 nEbO youth bakers and volunteers recently came together to spread some festive cheer to the elderly.

As part of an initiative called Bake Some GOODies v2.0, the volunteers, along with Members of Parliament (MPs) and grassroots leaders, visited various eldercare facilities and beneficiaries of NTUC Health across the island to distribute freshly baked cookies.

The cookies were baked by the volunteers on 5 and 6 February at Downtown East’s and Institute of Technical Education College West’s baking studios.

“Lunar New Year is very special to me because it’s a time when families gather to celebrate and catch up with one another over meals and new year goodies.

“I’m glad that nEbO has provided me with this platform to share my passion and to Do Good for the society. I am encouraged by the success of our Christmas baking activity and hope that this time around, we can bring more joy to more seniors at our NTUC Health facilities by scaling up our efforts with more volunteers,” said Glennis Ang, 23, a volunteer from National University of Singapore.

The volunteers worked in shifts to bake the cookies.

NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng and NTUC U SME and Women and Family Director Yeo Wan Ling joined the youth volunteers in distributing a batch of cookies on 8 February to NTUC Health’s Senior Day Care Centre in Pasir Ris.

“Despite COVID-19 restrictions, most of the youths I spoke to remain passionate about volunteering. Through such events, we inculcate the do-good spirit among our nEbO youths, socially engaging them to create a vibrant community that is Work, World, and Life-Ready.

“It’s especially heartening to see our youths come together with the community and grassroots to spread some festive cheer to our seniors from NTUC Health. I hope that they feel the warmth of our gesture during this Lunar New Year season,” said Mr Ng.

The cookies distribution will continue on 10 February at various NTUC Health centres, such as the NTUC Health Senior Activity Centre (Redhill) with NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and MP for Radin Mas SMC, Melvin Yong.
