As part of its efforts to bring job fairs to the community, NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) conducted a job fair at the Yio Chu Kang Community Club on 23 and 24 October 2012. Some 1,000 job positions were offered by 28 companies from various sectors, namely Manufacturing, Food & Beverage, Hospitality, Retail and Healthcare. Close to 580 job applicants came forward for the job fair over the two days. Jobseekers of all ages were present at the job fair as were representatives from the various participating companies.
Mr Christopher Roy who was previously from the hotel industry came to look for a job in the Food & Beverage sector after leaving his previous job recently. “I came here because I was really looking for a job. e2i helps match jobs for people of different ages, young and old,” said Mr Roy. e2i serves as the Labour Movement’s organisation to create solutions for better employment and employability. Its mission is to create better jobs and better lives for workers. In October 2012, e2i brought its job fairs into the heartlands and community by conducting job fairs at community clubs around the island.
Apart from community job fairs, e2i also organises job fairs that cater to a particular sector periodically.
