e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) have gone into the heartlands to reach out to residents living in the Eastern, Central and Western parts of Singapore to fill over 700 new job vacancies at Singapore’s first integrated resort, through a series of recruitment fairs held in July and August 2011. In total, about 2,800 jobseekers signed up for the recruitment drives held at Bukit Batok, Bedok and Kallang. e2i played a pivotal role in the outreach from publicising it in the newspapers and e2i’s website, to screening all candidates to ensure the right job fit. All candidates were scheduled to meet with the hiring managers from RWS at the three job fairs, stretching over two days at each location.

e2i and RWS went to the heartlands in this second recruitment collaboration, in response to earlier requests from the public who are unable to travel far for job interviews due to family or work commitments. “We decided to bring the jobs to those living in the heartlands, as many have asked if we can make it easier and bring the jobs closer to them. For those who are keen to explore a different career or even housewives and retirees who are looking for part-time or casual work, will now find it easier and more convenient to apply for a job,” said e2i’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ang Hin Kee.

The new vacancies are made in preparation for RWS’s Phase Two development, including its new Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium (MEMA), the Marine Life Park – set to be the world’s largest oceanarium, Equarius Hotel and Spa Villas; which have been scheduled to open progressively from the second half of 2011 onwards. There are close to 50 different positions offered across areas such as Attractions, Hospitality, Corporate & Resort Services and Casino. Both full time, as well as part time positions are available. e2i and RWS had previously collaborated in the recruitment and training of thousands of potential employees for the resort’s soft opening in early 2010.

The hiring of locals will remain a priority for RWS, with e2i continuing to work closely with RWS to fill its manpower needs. RWS Senior Vice President of Human Resources & Training, Ms Seah-Khoo Ee Boon added: “RWS is into our second year of operations, but our commitment in hiring locals as our top priority has never wavered. As our recruitment journey continues for the Resort’s second phase, I look forward to welcoming even more Singaporeans to join the RWS family for a long-term career, which I am most confident of achieving with our strong partnership with e2i.”

Said 38-year-old Mildred Ong, one of the jobseekers and who is also a mother of two: “I have always wanted to work in a different and more vibrant environment like RWS, apart from my years of experience in the engineering industry. I also hope to put into good use, of what I’ve learnt from my degree in the Bachelor of Arts (Communications) with Monash University, completed recently on a part time basis while working.”
