In his statement for work completed in Financial Year 2011/2012, NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Chairman Ong Ye Kung shared that it had assisted close to 46,000 workers in terms of job placements, skills upgrading and upward wage adjustments through productivity improvements. This was 15 per cent higher than in 2010.

Overall, e2i continued with the `3P’ approach to help more workers: placements into better jobs; professional development through skills upgrading; and productivity improvements with gains sharing.

Here is a quick look at some of the other main highlights:

- Disbursed a total of $19.6 million in Government grants - $10.6 million to support training of workers and skills upgrading of jobseekers to secure new jobs; and $9 million to support companies’ efforts to raise productivity and share gains.

- Awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certification for quality management in 2010 and Service Quality Class (SQC) for business excellence in 2011.

- Partnered and collaborated with over 430 companies and 70 training providers on initiatives to improve employment, job worth and productivity.

New and more career options were introduced with sectors such as IT, creative industry and local manufacturing. The top three hiring sectors were services (tourism, retail and F&B), transport and manufacturing.

- Brought jobs into the community through 13 community job fairs held all over Singapore.

- Channelled 7,500 jobseekers for employability courses to imbue the right mindset, improve CVs, enhance job search and interview skills and upgrade English literacy, IT knowledge, and customer service skills.

- Place-and-Train (PnT) and Train-and-Place programmes helped to fill 1,700 of the 19,200 job placements.
