The second Youth Impact Awards organised by Young NTUC on 3 December 2015 saw young union leaders and activists recognised for their efforts to the Labour Movement.
The awards, which was held in conjunction with Young NTUC’s 10th anniversary, hailed outstanding individuals and groups that embrace the values: ‘Do More’ and ‘Do Good’.
Recognising Leaders
At the awards, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to all Young NTUC Committee members and Team Young NTUC Affinity groups’ team managers.
The spotlight belonged to Young AUPE (Amalgamated Union of Public Employees) and Team Young NTUC Earth Runners, who bagged the Espirit de Corps Award for the consistent engagement of their youth members.
On an individual level, the Youth Action Award, which recognises one who advocates passionately for causes, went to Noor Irdawaty Jammarudin (pictured above with NTUC President Mary Liew SG Chan Chun Sing) from the Building Construction and Timber Industries Employees’ Union.
Apart from introducing new faces into Young NTUC, Irdawaty has also carved out new roles for former youth representatives unable to serve due to change in employment to continue their involvement with the Labour Movement.
Irdawaty also fronted the Young NTUC SG50 Amazing Race, where she led a committee in bringing together 14 unions to organise the largest joint union event to date.
Strength To Strength
At the ceremony, Guest-of-Honour NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing spoke of the common aim of “never going down in history as the best”.
“This may sound quite strange, but that means generations onwards will not be as good as us. Instead, if we want to go down in history having lent your shoulders for others to stand taller and see further, then I have every confidence that Singapore and the Labour Movement will go from strength to strength.”
“We will not only celebrate SG50 with pride and confidence as we have done, but SG100 and beyond with an even greater sense of identity, pride and accomplishment in time to come,” SG Chan said.
