On Singapore’s 48th birthday, some 7000 participants from Young NTUC, the Labour Movement’s youth wing, gathered at the Promontory @ Marina Bay to commemorate this year’s National Day.

Embodying the National Day Parade theme of ‘Many Stories… One Singapore’, friends, colleagues and loved ones came together, decked in red and white, to watch the live screening of the National Day Parade held at the Float @ Marina Bay.

“Young NTUC is proud to be organising Young NTUC Celebrates! National Day for the seventh time. The event has grown to be a very popular staple amongst union members, their families and friends and we are proud to be able to continue to organise it on behalf of the Labour Movement,” said Young NTUC Executive Secretary Steve Tan.

Apart from enjoying the breathtaking National Day Parade fireworks and National Day songs sing-a-long, participants also witnessed and got involved in the unveiling of a giant flag. Young NTUC’s p.L.a.Y! (Performing with Love by Active Youth) also emerged from the audience to dance in ‘Flash Mob’ style, leaving the crowd grooving on their feet.

A special moment of the night was the candle lighting session named ‘A Celebration Of Unity’. Participants helped light each other’s candle until the entire ground was kindled with flames from every candle.

“A Celebration Of Unity’ demonstrates the fact that in the Labour Movement you’ll never have to walk alone. When your flame goes off, you can just reach out to someone else behind you or in front of you and this is an apt metaphor of how in the unions we stand as one and look out for each other,” explained Young NTUC Executive Secretary Steve Tan.

“For more than 50 years, the Labour Movement has played a complementary role to the progress of Singapore and Singaporeans. By holding the event here at the Promontory within line of sight of the Float lends added significance to this notion.”
