Transport Workers

The National Taxi Association (NTA) held its National Day celebrations on 2 August 2016 at the Cheng San Community Centre. More than 200 members attended the event, including NTA Executive Advisor Ang Hin Kee. Taxi drivers were also treated to a buffet dinner and a durian party.

Meanwhile, the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) celebrated National Day together on 8 August 2016. Co-organised by the ComfortDelGro Group, the event took place at its headquarters and was graced by Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan. The more than 1,200 people who turned up enjoyed performances, plus took part in a mass workout session.

Port Workers

More than 170 union members and PSA staff from the Singapore Terminals 1 and 2 and Singapore Hub Centre came together with PSA management representatives at the new Pasir Panjang Terminal Building 3 on 18 August 2016 to observe National Day. The gathering was organised by the Singapore Port Workers Union (SPWU) and Port Officers' Union (POU), with Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence Ong Ye Kung as guest-of-honour.

Minister Ong shared that in light of changes in the economy, “we must all recognise that the game has changed and that everyone must learn how to response to these changes.”

As a tribute to the occasion, a special jigsaw collage of Singapore was made out of images from PSA’s activities with staff over the years. As a symbol of the strong labour-management relationship, members of staff, management partners, union representatives and Minister Ong came together to complete the jigsaw.
