The last day of the NTUC National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) held on 29 October 2015 at Downtown East saw the unveiling of the 21-member NTUC Central Committee (CC) that will be responsible for steering the Labour Movement towards its 2019 vision, with nine new members. The committee will hold office for a four-year term from 2015 to 2019.

Mr Chan Chun Sing garnered the most number of votes at this year’s NDC and returned to his seat to helm the Labour Movement as NTUC Secretary-General (SG).

Also returning to office were Vice-Presidents Edwin Lye and K. Karthikeyan, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) Heng Chee How, Assistant Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong, and members Arasu Duraisamy, Benjamin Tang, Andy Lim, and Ong Hwee Liang.

Several re-elected CC members also took on new leadership roles in the committee. They included Ms Mary Liew, who will take on the post of President; Mr Toh Hock Poh, who will take on the role of Secretary for Financial Affairs; and Mr Tan Hock Soon, who will be one of the three Vice-Presidents.

The committee also announced the creation of the new position of Assistant Secretary for Financial Affairs to look into an expanded scope for financial affairs, which will be taken on by Mr Yeo Chun Fing.

Paying Tribute

The day also saw SG Chan pay a tribute to several outgoing CC members, including President Diana Chia, Secretary for Financial Affairs Lim Kuang Beng, and Vice-President Nora Kang.

He said: “While they might be Flowing On, they are not Flowing Out. We will be tapping on their experience to guide the new generation of CC members.

“Sister Diana is strong in her leadership development. Brother Kuang Beng has a lot of experience dealing with financial matters, so his contribution will continue to be in the area of financial governance and stewardship of union resources. Sister Nora has extensive experience in managing unions and industrial relations.
