Talking Points
The Best Companies for Mums contest, aims to highlight the exemplary practices of companies, supervisors and colleagues who have made that culture of flexibility possible. They have created a thriving work environment where working mothers are able to excel in their careers while caring for their families of which they are also very passionate about.
When the Best Companies for Mums Contest was first launched last year, also with the support of the Tripartite Alliance for Fair & Progressive Employment Practices, TAFEP for short, we hoped to discover some exemplary companies and supervisors who made working while having a family possible. And indeed we have discovered some gems there.
Last year, we discovered 12 exemplary companies and 4 supervisors. This year, we recognise 21 exemplary companies supportive of working mothers and fathers and as many as 48 individual supervisors and colleagues. That is over 4 times as many awards!
I am happy to know that past winners for Best Companies for Mums, DBS, HDB, Environmental Resources Management and Absolute Kinetics Consultancy are back with us this year again, because, after being recognised as a best company for mothers last year, they are adding on awards in other categories as well! I applaud them for the supportive culture they have created for working parents, especially mothers, which drew repeated nominations from their employees.
This is indeed a strong message for all employers out there that creating an inclusive family-friendly work environment for its employees translates into tangible benefits. These companies have better engaged employees which are loyal to them.
For example, Hitachi Asia & Infineon, 2 of our awardees today, had nominations from working mothers who have been with them for more than 10 years now. They all appreciate the companies for the flexible working culture. Companies like Hitachi Asia & Infineon will definitely be in better position to attract and retain women talents in a tight labour market such as this.
So without further ado, let us welcome the exemplary companies and individuals as well as the working mums and dads who nominated them. These awardees are truly the stars today!
