The partnership deal between the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) FairPrice Co-operative Limited and South East Community Development Council for staging the “Walk for Rice” campaign has been renewed for another three years.

This was announced by FairPrice Chief Executive Officer Seah Kian Peng at the annual campaign’s launch and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 29 September 2013.

He stated that over the last four years, Walk for Rice at South East has raised two million bowls of rice and benefits over 7,000 needy South East District residents every year.

The campaign was off to a rousing start as over 700 participants walked a distance of over 1,500 km to raise 15,000 bowls of rice for 140 elders of the Thye Hua Kuan Bedok Radiance Senior Activity Centre.

“Small efforts can contribute to significant change and we hope more residents will come forward to do their part for the community as we move towards a more giving and compassionate society,” said Dr Mohamad Mliki Osman, South East District Mayor and Minister of State for Defence and National Development.

A series of roadshows in various FairPrice outlets were also put up to promote the cause in October.

Like in the past, one bowl of rice will be donated for each FairPrice product such as bread, beverages and toiletries purchased until 9 October 2013.
