SIM-NTUC Partnership Agreement
The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) inked a Partnership Agreement today as part of the Labour Movement’s efforts to reach out and serve more professionals, managers and executives (PMEs). With this new partnership, members of both NTUC and SIM will be able to benefit from more training programmes through the privileges offered by both organisations to upgrade their skills constantly so that they remain relevant and competitive in the workplace.
The agreement will also allow over 1,000 SIM Ordinary members to enjoy dual membership at SIM and NTUC and the privileges under the U Associate Programme.
Special Privileges for NTUC Members on Selected SIM Programmes
Under the partnership, NTUC members, including SIM U Associate members can now save up to 40 per cent when they attend SIM’s membership and interest group events. NTUC and SIM U Associate members can also tap on UTAP (Union Training Assistance Programme), a training subsidy offered by NTUC when they attend selected membership and interest group events and professional development courses at SIM. SIM currently organises more than 800 seminars, workshops and membership events annually for executive training, upgrading and networking.
U Associate Programme
SIM is the first private tertiary institution that the Labour Movement is partnering under the U Associate Programme. It has partnered three other U Associate partners - Nanyang Technological University Alumni Club (NTU-AC), the Institute of Estate Agents (IEA) and the Singapore School Bus Transport Association (SSTA). Through these partnerships, the Labour Movement is able to extend its reach to a total of 5,500 PMEs.
Mr Patrick Tay, Director (Legal Services & PMEs), NTUC and MP for Nee Soon GRC, was the Guest-of-Honour at the event. The partnership marked a new milestone between SIM and NTUC in a close collaboration between the two organisations over the past one year. Mr Tay also recalled his recent work trip to the United Kingdom where he witnessed how the PME unions in the UK work closely with professional bodies and associations to jointly advance the interests and serve the needs of their members. It is similar to the Labour Movement’s strategy of working with professional associations such as NTU-AC, IEA and SIM. This close association and alliance will provide collective voice and strength for these professional groups and bodies whose members comprise mainly PMEs.
The SIM-NTUC Partnership Agreement was signed by Ms Tang Mei Sin, Director, Relationship and Events Management of SIM and Mr Vivek Kumar, Director, Membership of NTUC.
