Global apparel retailer UNIQLO is the Official Attire Sponsor of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Ordinary Delegates’ Conference (ODC) 2021, providing white AIRism Jersey Polo Shirts for more than 1,000 participants who attended the conference onsite and online. This is part of UNIQLO’s generous sponsorship of 8,000 white AIRism Jersey Polo Shirts to NTUC in celebration of NTUC’s 60th Anniversary this year, demonstrating the strong Labour-Management Relationship forged between UNIQLO and the main party that coordinated the sponsorship - the Singapore Industrial and Services Employees' Union (SISEU).

The ODC is a biennial conference where union delegates do a stock take of the Labour Movement’s direction set previously at the NTUC National Delegates’ Conference and evaluate the progress made in helping members and workers since. The ODC marks an important milestone where union delegates come together to review, reimagine and restrategise how NTUC can bring more workers into its fold and champion their interests and rights, and help them achieve better wages, better welfare and better work prospects.

This year’s ODC was organised in a hybrid format for the first time and was graced by Guest-of-Honour Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat. The opening session of the conference, which was hosted by NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng and the NTUC Central Committee, was also attended by Minister for Manpower Dr Tan See Leng, Singapore National Employers Federation President Dr Robert Yap, other ministers, key representatives from the unions, Government and employers, including UNIQLO Singapore and Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Mr Yuki Yamada and HR Director Juliana Tan.

Mr Melvin Yong, NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and Chairman of the ODC 2021 Organising Committee, said, “UNIQLO’s sponsorship is a true testament to the strong Labour-Management Relationship between the company and SISEU. UNIQLO’s company slogan, “Made for All”, mirrors our commitment towards becoming an inclusive Labour Movement for all collars, ages and nationalities of workers, where every worker matters. We are deeply appreciative of their sponsorship and hope to continue working with them to protect and advance the rights and interests of our workers. This is especially so as NTUC celebrates our 60th Anniversary this year, of enhancing our workers’ employment and employability; partnering our companies for higher productivity and innovations; and working with our unions and the Government in driving economic and social development and stability for our people.”

“SISEU is glad that unionised company, UNIQLO, has readily come onboard to celebrate NTUC’s 60th Anniversary with us by contributing towards NTUC’s biennial Ordinary Delegates’ Conference. This also highlights the robust relationship between SISEU and UNIQLO. We will continue working closely with UNIQLO, and hope that many more companies and workers will also join us as we continue to enhance the welfare of our workers,” said Mr Richard Sim, General Secretary of SISEU.

Mr Yuki Yamada, Chief Executive Officer of UNIQLO Singapore and Malaysia, says, “Congratulations to NTUC on your 60th Anniversary. We are thrilled to support all attendees with our LifeWear on this momentous occasion. As a company, we take pride in our commitment and responsibility towards employees to foster corporate and personal growth. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with NTUC and SISEU to further enhance our staff development and be among the best places to work.”
