The Union of Security Employees (USE) is distributing 1,000 care packs to security officers to thank them for their hard work in keeping Singapore safe and protected amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

During this period, security officers have been doubling up routine temperature checks for the sites that they are deployed to. This also entails them carrying out and informing visitors of guidelines and protocols set by building owners or other buyers of security services.

Today, USE together with NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, gave out care packages to some 50 security officers from Reachfield Security and Safety Management Pte Ltd (Reachfield) who are deployed at the National Library Building.

The care packs, contained in a USE sling bag, comprises items that will help security officers as they look after their own health during this period: four pieces of surgical masks, a hand sanitiser, an oral thermometer, a USE umbrella and a USE hand fan. The care packages were put together by USE union leaders, staff, NTUC Industrial Relations Officers as well as youth volunteers from Young NTUC.

Protecting welfare of security officers amidst stepped up COVID-19 measures

USE had also given out 50 care packs to security officers over the past two weeks, including those deployed at Gardens by the Bay (Gardens).

USE noted progressive practices set by Gardens, who took measures to protect the welfare and health of their outsourced security officers from Reachfield. For example, Gardens made it a priority for security officers to receive hand sanitisers and disinfectants and are also undertaking clear daily communications with officers on the status of the outbreak.

Additionally, Gardens worked closely with Reachfield on processes and protocols during this period, further strengthening the working relationship between service buyer and service provider.

Encouraging all security clients to protect the welfare and health of security officers during this period, USE Executive Secretary Steve Tan said, “Our security officers are going above and beyond their call of duty as Singapore stands united in this fight against COVID-19. We hope the care packs will help boost their spirits as they continue their hard work. Beyond that, we encourage buyers of security services to take good care of the health of their outsourced security officers, just as they would of their own employees. After all, we are all in this together.”
