Our unionists play a key role in supporting SkillsFuture.
That is the message that Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Tharman Shanmugaratnam shared at the Ong Teng Cheong Labour Leadership Institute (OTCi) Graduation Ceremony on 7 November 2015.
“SkillsFuture is a major initiative for the future. It will help everyone to learn, pick up new skills and discover new strengths at any stage of life,” he said.
At the ceremony, DPM Tharman explained how union leaders can help workers become familiar with the respective schemes, namely the SkillsFuture Credit, where every Singaporean aged 25 and above will receive $500 credit to take up courses to continue their development. The scheme will begin in January 2016.
DPM Tharman added: “Union leaders will also play an important role in the 26 Sectoral Tripartite Committees that will develop and implement skills upgrading plans, industry by industry. The Tripartite Committees will identify future skills needed in the industry and how to help existing workers and new workers to keep pace with developments and do well in their careers.”
