Ten unions were recognised with the U Breakthrough Awards for their recruitment, retention and relationship building efforts at the awarding ceremony held at the U Summit 2013.

This award celebrated the creative efforts of unions to bring more value and benefits to members over the past year.

One of the winners was the Food Drinks and Allied Workers' Union (FDAWU) that offered workers at a non-unionised hotel a three-month free membership. When the union entered into a secret ballot with the hotel, it won the right to represent the employees by garnering 77% of the total votes.

Meanwhile, the powerful recruitment video produced by the Healthcare Services Employees' Union (HSEU) featured Chief Executive Officers from different healthcare institutions proved to have a strong message and resulted in HSEU being one of the fastest growing unions in the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).

Seven merchant partners and five NTUC Social Enterprises were also recognised at the U Summit 2013.

Select Service Partner Singapore Private Limited (SSP), Sentosa Leisure Group and Tiger Airways are among the three merchant partners that were awarded the U Partner Awards.

SSP's year-long offer and tactical promotion for NTUC members at all brands under their management (Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, Saboten, and Cafe Ritazza) and their generous sponsorship for some of NTUC Membership Department's (MED) campaigns are only a few reasons they are considered a strong supporter of the Labour Movement.

Sentosa Leisure Group, a long-time partner of NTUC continues their support through marketing collaterals for NTUC campaigns.  Promotion of NTUC membership also gets priority during events collaboration.

On the other hand, MED has just extended its partnership with Tiger Airways for another three years. This enables NTUC members to enjoy exclusive offers, priority boarding and a $5 discount for check-in luggage per passenger till June 2016. NTUC members have enjoyed savings of up to $1 million since the partnership started in May 2012.
