If you’ve ever felt like you’re not sure where you can use your NTUC membership card, don’t fret. NTUC’s Membership Department recently released the U Privileges booklet highlighting a wide array of benefits members can enjoy from January to June 2013, with most of the offers valid till the end of December 2013.

There are more than 150 merchants in the booklet, and Indian Cuisine and Halal-certified restaurants are now grouped together for easy reference.

Besides lifestyle benefits, the booklet also highlights benefits of NTUC membership at work such as NTUC Training Benefits with the Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP), which is now up to $250. The “Workplace Advice” section has also been enhanced where it lists the avenues members can seek help from such as legal clinics, workplace advisory and tripartite mediation

Even with advances and efforts in online outreach and social media, the U Privileges booklet remains relevant as it plays a necessary and important communication tool to reach out to members who are not online savvy.

NTUC Membership Assistant Director (Partnership & Alliances and Marketing Communication) Julian Lew said: “U Privileges booklet enables us to form a more personal connection with our existing and new members. We designed it to be helpful for our union leaders in explaining the benefits during face-to-face interactions like union roadshows and new staff briefing.”

The U Privileges booklet is available at the 36 U Standees in various parts of Singapore, as well as the Membership Service Centres. The booklet will be mailed out to all new members together with their NTUC Card and welcome letter. Existing members can pick up a copy of the booklet at their union offices and more copies can be requested from the MED Organising Resource Centre (MED ORC) focals.

Alternatively, members can also download the soft copy of the U Privileges booklet at the Power of U website (www.PowerOfU.sg) or reach it through the MED Facebook page and on thier smartphones through (Connect)u eZine.

The booklet has been warmly welcomed by the Labour Movement family.

United Workers of Petroleum Industry (UWPI) General Secretary Karthikeyan Krishnamurthy said: “It is so easy to use the booklet doing acquisition roadshows and it shows the marvellous value we are bringing to our members. With the prevalence of smartphones, my members find it convenient to download the electronic version of the U Privileges Booklet and enjoy the privileges on the go.”

Attractions, Resorts & Entertainment Union (AREU) President Hassan Abdullah is also very excited to see the latest suite of U Privileges for NTUC members. “The sections on Indian Cuisine and Halal Restaurants makes it easier for members to refer to and I’m very impressed with the number of exciting merchants we have lined up for our members. “

“This U Privileges Booklet is a clear demonstration and confirmation of the unique advantage that union membership brings. The benefits are comprehensively wide ranging and cover every aspect to suit every member’s work-life and leisure needs," added Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority Workers' Union (SURAWU) President Freddy Lim.
