As part of U Live’s ongoing efforts to promote a H2P2 (Happy, Healthy, Productive and Purposeful) lifestyle for active agers, a pilot programme was recently developed to identify a group of U Live Health Ambassadors to advocate healthy living through regular health screenings. The pilot programme kicked off with a special colonoscopy and gastroscopy screening on 21 and 22 September 2012.

Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer in Singapore for men and women. Both colorectal and gastric cancers are curable if diagnosed early. Through this pilot programme, the U Live Health Ambassadors can walk the talk and spread the word on the importance of health screenings, especially in one’s golden years.

Having undergone the scope, these Health Ambassadors will become U Live’s voice in advocating health screening to their friends, families and other seniors. U Live hopes that education in this area and encouraging regular screening will lead to a decrease in death from these cancers. Having experienced the process, the Ambassadors are empowered to change the perception of health screenings in other seniors.

The special health screening was held at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, where Dr Ang Peng Tiam, Medical Director of Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC), and Ms Sri Isrinah, Senior Manager of U Live, were present to motivate the first batch of brave Health Ambassadors.
Dr Ang said: "I am delighted that the Health Ambassadors of U Live have come forward to participate in this programme. I hope that they will share the experiences with their friends and colleagues that colorectal cancer is a preventable illness. Colonscopy serves for early detection which can prevent colon cancers from developing further.”

Ms Sri added: “As U Live advocates for active living and healthy ageing through H2P2, which stands for ‘Happy, Healthy, Productive and Purposeful’, we strongly encourage our members to make use of this special collaboration between U Live and Parkway Cancer Centre to go for the Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy screening. To be happy, productive and purposeful, first you’ll have to be healthy.”

Special Promotion
From now to 30 November 2012, U Live members can enjoy a special Gastroscopy & Colonoscopy Screening Package by Parkway Cancer Centre. For more information, visit www.ulive.sg.
