Media Fact Sheet

For the first time, U Family will be bringing together more than 100 babies age 12 months and below from various nationalities to celebrate Singapore’s 45th birthday. It will be the babies’ first National Day celebration. Young parents who are first time parents, will get the opportunity to interact and share parenting tips with one another on this special occasion. They will also be treated to a musical extravaganza brought to them and their young ones by U Family.

This year, more than 900 U Family’s members will be taking part in the National Day Bash cum observance ceremony on 14 August 2010. Over 100 babies age 12 months and below, together with their siblings and parents, will be celebrating Singapore’s 45th National Day at the National University Culture Hall. Joining them is Guest-of-Honour for the event, Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence. The cutest baby dressed in the U Family’s limited edition National Day Baby Tee will bring home an attractive prize. Dr Ng will also be leading the Birthday celebration with some August babies and their parents on stage and each baby will get a foot imprint as a memento.

As a special treat for the little audience, the traditional National Day songs will be presented by a Chinese Orchestra. The children will also be singing and performing along a medley of familiar National Day songs and nursery rhymes. This is a great chance for the families to celebrate National Day together and expose their children to the wonderful world of music. Research has long shown that children benefit immensely when they are introduced to music at a very young age. Such exposure will have a positive impact on the child’s development as they grow.

Ms Toh Hwee Tin, Director of U Family said, “U Family is a community just for families, and we believe in building up “happy families” through initiatives that strengthen family bonds and support working parents. This event is a platform for families to celebrate National Day together with fellow families, and to bring babies and children together for this joyous occasion. For many of the babies, it would be their first National Day Party. As these babies are the children and future of Singapore, U Family hopes that they will grow up in pursuit of their dreams and not forgetting that they are a part of Singapore and will be proud of being one.”

U Family will also be organising a series of activities in the coming months to help strengthen families bonds. Children can look forward to participate in programmes that help build their characters and confidence level as they grow to be the future leaders of the Labour Movement and Singapore.
