U Care fund enhances Family Recreation & Fun Carnival 2009/2010 with $1.5million and 6 family-day outings

Singapore, 30 May 2009- Aimed to benefit more low-income union members in this economic downturn, additional U Care fund will be used to enhance the Family Recreation & Fun Carnivals to $1.5 million, allowing the family-day outings to be increased to six runs for the period of 2009/2010. With the first family-day outing launching on 31st May 2009 at Downtown East, more than 15,000 members will benefit from this initiative for 09/10.

Wholesome Recreation, Fun & Convenience for more members
Family Recreation & Fun Carnival is an initiative launched to enable low-income union members and their families to achieve better work and family life balance through enjoying a day out at NTUC Club’s recreational facilities. Since its official launch in 2005, the initiative has already benefited more than 40,000 low-income union members and NTUC Club is working towards benefiting more members during this economic downturn. For 09/10, the initial amount of $1million was increased to $1.5million so as to enable the family-day outings to be increased from the initial 4 runs to 6 runs.

To enhance the overall experience, the family-day outings are specially planned with the family unit in mind. Two-way transportation is provided at designated locations to provide convenience to the participants regardless of where they stay and to ease the hassle of travelling in a larger group. With 3 locations for each event, 18 different accessible locations are selected for the 6 outings. The dates of the outings are also organised to facilitate both the parents and their children and hence are all during the school holidays and on the weekends.

The dates are:
- 31st May 2009, Sunday
- 6th Jun 2009, Saturday
- 7th Jun 2009, Sunday
- 5th Dec 2009, Saturday
- 6th Dec 2009, Sunday
- 14th Mar 2010, Sunday

“Going out as a family usually costs a lot especially when we add in costs like food and transportation. The Family Recreation & Fun Carnival is really a nice gift for us as everything is free and my whole family gets to enjoy so many different activities”, said Mr Mohammad Mazlan, 40 years old, participant of Family Recreation & Fun Carnival 08/09.
