Young union leaders from the Young NTUC committee's Industrial Sector got together on 17 August 2013 for a meaningful cause. To coincide with their relationship and team bonding session, the 11 young leaders brought 10 children from the Jamiyah Childrens' home for a day of fun and excitement. The day started out with an ice-skating session which saw smiles on many faces. Though the beneficiaries were stumbling and falling every now and then, the children enjoyed the fun nonetheless.

As part of efforts to encourage the young union leaders to bond, Young NTUC had allocated $25 per person for the three sectors (Public, Service and Industrial) to organise activities to gather and bond. Funding for this
activity came from the NTUC U Care CSR Co-Funding Scheme.

Coincidentally, Capitaland kindly extended one ticket to each Young NTUC committee member for ice-skating at The Rink at JCube. After the two-hour skating session, the children were brought to McDonald's for lunch where each Young NTUC committee member had a chance to get to know the children's background better.

The meaningful event resulted not just in a day for the young union leaders to get to know one another better but it also gave them an opportunity to do good, do together and do more to give back to society.

Having assisted in the planning and driving of the activity, Building Construction And Timber Industries Employees' Union's (BATU) Young NTUC committee member Noor Irdawaty shared that should there be a chance to reach out to the young children of Jamiyah Childrens' home again, she will 'come running to them'. She said: 'Nothing brings me more happiness than helping the vulnerable people in our
society.'

Fellow Young NTUC committee member Jeremy Ho added that he personally felt like an older sibling watching over a younger sibling, 'protecting and not letting them fall'. He said: 'Although it was a short three hours, the smiles and the confidence we gave them is just priceless!'
