As part of their efforts to promote the adoption of good workplace practices, the Ministry of Manpower, NTUC, and the Singapore National Employers Federation issued on 23 December 2015 a Tripartite Advisory on Managing Workplace Harassment.

This came after the Protection from Harassment Act was passed by Parliament in March 2014.

Developed by the Tripartite Workgroup on Prevention of Harassment at the Workplace, the advisory provides guidelines to employers and employees on preventive measures to adopt to ensure a safe and conducive workplace. It also contains recommendations on the steps affected persons can take if harassment occurs at the workplace.

“I am happy that the Labour Movement has been able to lobby successfully for this set of guidelines and be part of the tripartite effort to produce it for the benefit of workers in Singapore. This advisory also lends weight to the Protection from Harassment Act.

“We urge all employers as a guide to adopting the principles and policies on workplace harassment to create a work environment which is safe, conducive and productive for all,” said NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay.

The tripartite workgroup also sought the views of the Association of Women for Action and Research, Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations and Migrant Workers’ Centre when developing the advisory.

Since 2014, the Labour Movement has conducted several workshops for union members on workplace bullying and harassment.
