NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and the Labour Movement’s Oil, Petrochemical, Energy & Chemical (OPEC) Cluster have partnered industry partners to roll out a series of training initiatives for workers in the manufacturing industry.
This is to strengthen the skills and competencies of workers in preparation for Industry 4.0. The initiatives will benefit almost 1,500 professionals, managers, executives and technicians.
The move is one of several under the Labour Movement’s Training Council and Manufacturing Training Committee which oversee the training and employment needs of workers across industries under the 23 Industry Transformation Maps.
New Initiatives
One of the training initiatives includes an advanced manufacturing framework that serves to guide companies and workers to acquire industry 4.0 skills sets. Focus areas include competencies in process automation, Internet of Things, data analytics and artificial intelligence.
Another new initiative is a seminar series on the NTUC’s U Leap app. These bite sized-mobile modules take the form of 2-hour seminars. The 20-seminar series will cover 17 topics and was developed together with Nanyang Technological University Singapore’s College of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE College). Upon completion of at least three seminars on the same topic, participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The third initiative is in partnership with Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and will help laboratory and process technicians acquire professional certification via an Assessment-Only Pathway and a bite-sized approach. Workers currently in the industry will be assessed by SP on their skill competencies. Those who qualify will receive a professional certification.
Formalising Commitment
To affirm the commitment among the partners to continue to curate and deliver bite-sized training, e2i and the NTUC OPEC Cluster signed two separate memoranda of understanding (MOU) with NTU PaCE College and SP.
The MOU signings were witnessed by NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon.
