The National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) symbiotic ties with the People’s Action Party (PAP) was once again reaffirmed at the PAP60 Dinner and Awards held at the Singapore Expo on 22 November 2014.

In his speech, Party Chairman Mr Khaw Boon Wan reiterated that the PAP’s symbiotic relationship with NTUC dates back several decades.

“Over the years, NTUC has supported PAP’s economic strategies by steering the Labour Movement from a confrontational brand of unionism to a collaborative one,” said Mr Khaw, who is also the Minister for National Development.

Strong Tripartism

A group of 20 union leaders led by NTUC President Diana Chia was present at the dinner to lend support.

Mr Khaw added that the support by NTUC “has paved the way for strong Tripartism, sustained growth and development in Singapore.”

“We recognised this link and the Labour Movement’s continued importance when we named the CET (Continuing Education and Training) Centre run by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability,” said Mr Khaw.

Close to 400 party activists were honoured for their dedicated and loyal service to the party.
