The Singapore Management University (SMU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) on 26 April 2017 to conduct programmes related to industry transformation through technology.

In conjunction with the ceremony, SMU launched its lifelong learning unit – SMU Academy – at the DIGITEC 2017 technology conference supported by e2i.

Both the collaboration and the SMU Academy seek to tap into SMU’s inherent strengths in financial services, management, leadership and technology.

Digital Credentials

SMU Academy has begun offering modular courses that are stackable towards Master’s degrees. They are not only aligned to the Government’s Industry Transformation Maps, but also supported by SkillsFuture Singapore.

New courses, such as the ‘Fintech and Innovation’ workshop, award participants with digital credentials that can be placed on their CVs, social media accounts or job applications. Some also experiment with face-to-face video-synchronised teaching as well as the use of smart devices in the coursework within the curriculum.

More Workshops

With the help of e2i, some 300 Singaporeans benefitted from the workshops on digital innovations and its impact on the future of work at the two-day DIGITEC 2017 conference organised by SMU. There were about 600 attendees.

As part of the MOU, SMU will partner e2i to bring more of such professional development programmes. One example is the two-day HR Analytics certification targeted at 250 HR practitioners to pick up new skills in data analytics to drive HR decisions and how to make use of analytical tools. With its first intake this coming July 2017, Singaporean trainees can enjoy up to 50 per cent course fees support from e2i and NTUC members can get additional subsidy under the Union Training Assistance Programme.
