I refer to the letter from Ms Eunice Li Dan Yue to your forum page suggesting the creation of purpose-built recreational spaces and a customised counselling hotline for migrant workers. These are good ideas, which have in fact been pursued by the stakeholders over the years and continue to be refined and improved along the way.
There are currently four recreation centres for migrant workers, situated in areas of higher density migrant worker housing. The Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) has worked with all of these recreation centres over the last few years to organize events and programs which appeal to the migrant workers. A fifth centre, at Terusan Road, will be officially opened at the end of this week (15 May).
The MWC’s helpline 6536-2692 operates in the migrant workers’ native tongues on a 24/7 basis so workers always have one-touch assistance that is a phone call away. Since our set up in 2009, the MWC has directly assisted more than 19,000 aggrieved migrant workers. The MWC urges all migrant workers who require assistance to call our helpline.
We welcome Ms Li to engage with us on her ideas to improve the well-being of our migrant workers.

Chairman, Migrant Workers’ Centre
