NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing announced during the recent May Day Rally that the Inclusive Growth Programme (IGP) administered by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) will be extended.

e2i CEO Gilbert Tan said that the Government will pump in another $100 million to target 100,000 workers in the lowest 30th percentile.

More Reach

Launched in 2010 by the Labour Movement, the IGP aims to enhance companies’ business operations to drive higher productivity through automation, re-engineering of processes, and workflow re-design. It is also the only productivity grant in Singapore that ensures sharing of productivity gains with workers through higher wages.

Mr Tan acknowledged that the IGP has done well since it was launched, and added that the Labour Movement wants to engage more companies and workers with the new fund.

One such way is to reach out to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through industry partners such as trade associations in a bid to bring its member-companies on board the IGP.

Another way is to do outreach efforts based on location.

“For example, we can work with the mall operator, or an industrial park manager or developer to reach out to all the SMEs and tenants within that location because SMEs are usually located this way,” explained Mr Tan.

Mr Tan also added that there are currently over 40 business grants by the Government, hence the Labour Movement will continue to study how IGP can evolve to better complement them.
