NTUC renamed NTUC Auditorium to Stephen Riady Auditorium @ NTUC
The Labour Movement has named the NTUC Auditorium located at One Marina Boulevard, NTUC Centre, to Stephen Riady Auditorium @ NTUC with immediate effect. Over 100 guests joined NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing and special guest, Dr Stephen Riady, Executive Chairman of OUE Limited, in a ceremony this morning to unveil the new name for the auditorium.
$10 million donation from Stephen Riady Foundation
Dr Stephen Riady, a firm believer in education, has donated $10 million to the NTUC Education and Training Fund (NETF) through the Stephen Riady Foundation. This was part of the $25 million that the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has raised to date. As additional funding support to NETF, the Government had pledged a 1:3 matching grant of up to $150 million in May Day last year.
“Everyone can acquire new knowledge and skills through education and continuous learning. I am pleased to support the mission of the NTUC Education and Training Fund to equip the working population in Singapore with relevant skills for the future economy,” said Dr Riady.
With generous support from the Labour Movement partners, corporate and individual donors as well as the Government, the Labour Movement has achieved the $100 million additional funding, i.e. $25 million donations and $75 million Government grant, to date. The Labour Movement will continue to reach out to more donors in the coming months as it works towards the target of injecting a total sum of $200 million additional fund into the NETF.
Partnering stakeholders to achieve skills upgrading for all
The Labour Movement recognises the importance of ensuring sustainable skills upgrading to meet the career aspirations of our working people. Today, the Labour Movement is partnering many stakeholders, such as the Government, companies and the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to develop relevant training courses to meet the specific needs of our working people so that they can take on the jobs of tomorrow.
The NTUC is also deepening our collaboration with close to 170 training providers and all 14 IHLs. NTUC will also work with the training providers and IHLs to create relevant speed-to-market training modules to match the need of this fast-moving economy where learning is continuous and updated on the go.
Union members can tap on more than 3,100 Continuing Education Courses today to enjoy course fee subsidy, capped at a maximum of $250 per year, under the Union Training Assistance Programme supported by the NETF. As the economy transforms, the Labour Movement will continue to mobilise and encourage all working people to embrace continuous lifelong learning.
