NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), together with the North East Community Development Council (CDC), will bring over 4,000 jobs to residents through a series of job fairs called Career Discovery @ North East.

The job fairs will run from 27 June to end July 2020 at community clubs in Punggol, Tampines East, Kaki Bukit and Anchorvale.

The  4,000 jobs are from various industries such as F&B, transportation, security, healthcare, retail, and logistics. The salaries of these jobs range from $1,200 to $5,000.

Support for Job Seekers

The fair will provide a one-stop platform for job seekers to access various onsite employment resources and initiatives – such as physical and virtual interviews, career coaching and e2i training workshops.

“There is a feeling of uncertainty about job security, and often job seekers are not completely clear what support is available.

“Our job fairs and employability workshops are both onsite and online. Residents will also have access to e2i and CDC’s career coaches who will guide residents on their career and training options,” said e2i CEO Gilbert Tan.

NTUC Job Security Council (JSC) Job Stations will also be present for job seekers to browse and apply for jobs on site.

Commenting on the initiative, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng said: “I know many residents are concerned about jobs and livelihoods. While there are over 100,000 jobs in SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package, what we are doing today is bringing over 4,000 jobs directly into the community.

Announced by Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat at the Fortitude Budget, the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package aims to create close to 100,000 jobs, traineeships, and skills training opportunities, to support workers affected by the economic impact of COVID-19.

“Whether rank-and-file workers and PMEs. I want to assure residents that we are here to guide them through the job search process, with career coaching and training workshops. By bringing such conveniences to the residents of North East district, we hope that this will ease their anxiety and encourage them to act now so that they can secure jobs quickly.”

Searching for Jobs Safely

Considering the COVID-19 situation, the North East CDC will introduce comprehensive ways to ensure that small, well-controlled events will be held for the job seekers, allowing them to gain access to jobs, training and career coaching safely.

There will be strict safety management measures in place – such as stringent registration processes, mandatory mask usage and disinfection process, as well as roving Safe Distancing Ambassadors.

“Innovation and inventiveness are needed for us to help residents find jobs during these difficult times. We can still provide residents with easier access to job and career training opportunities if we implement our safe management measures well.

“We want residents to be safe from Covid-19 while tackling their job challenges,” said NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Desmond Choo, who is also the mayor of the North East district.
