“Majulah Singapura!” – That was the rally call of over 5,000 unionists, pioneer generation union leaders, tripartite partners and their families as they gathered at the Promontory at Marina Bay on 1 August 2015 to celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday.

The event was also the first time tripartite partners from NTUC, Singapore National Employers Federation and Ministry of Manpower came together to participate in a large scale National Day Observance Ceremony (NDOC).

Hailed as one of the largest NDOC ever held, the event is a kick-start to a month-long worth of events the Labour Movement has put in place to mark the nation’s Golden Jubilee.

“The Labour Movement wanted to make SG50 as meaningful as possible. We know that we can move forward because we are all-inclusive. There will be four days of events where we will be honouring the pioneer generation, families, and youths,” said NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Zainal Sapari, who is also Chairman of the NTUC SG50 Celebrations Committee.

We bring you the highlights of the opening event:
