Earlier this year, Security agency Soverus unveiled its Integrated Command Centre (ICC), a facility that provides round-the-clock protection for properties and assets. The company also tapped on the Inclusive Growth Programme by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).
The $2 million state-of-the-art facility boasts high-tech displays that help four controllers monitor 73 sites, communication systems that relay messages to ground officers and real time tracking of personnel and vehicles.
Virtual Patrolling
A key feature of the ICC is the virtual patrolling system. It uses smart closed circuit cameras paired with video analytics to interpret incidents. The system alerts ICC when suspicious events occur and only then is a roving patrol unit deployed.
According to Soverus, this feature complements traditional guarding and more than halves the need for security officers.
“This can help redesign jobs for officers on the ground to be more professional. If the buyer wants to project visibility of officers on the ground, some of them can take on work such as concierge where there is a value-add to their job,” said Ong Kok Leong, chief operating officer of Secura Group, Soverus’ parent company.
Manual No Longer
The buyers of security services can also choose to have a robot and drone patrol the grounds 24/7.
“There was one particular project when an officer was tasked to patrol a perimeter that was 4.2km long, three times a shift. Doing that every day can take a toll on our officers. However, with this robot, patrolling 4.2km, three times every day would be effortless,” added Mr Ong.
Mohamad Rizal Abd Rahim, who has 10 years of experience in the security line, has seen his job redesigned from a normal administrative job of a security supervisor when he joined the company in 2015 to a more challenging one. He is now an ICC controller.
“Everything was manually done and handwritten, but with this new system, everything is done digitally and it helps to cut down the time we take to do our tasks. For example, attendance taking of the officers is done using biometrics and is automatically captured in the system. We can also see where our security officers are on the ground and that gives us better command and control,” said Mr Rizal.
