After five years of getting to know the active agers better, the Labour Movement’s U Live Community launched the new Active 55+ programme on 16 August 2014.
This programme strives to let U Live members be more proactive in their golden years through various platforms.
Members who sign up for the Active 55+ programme will embark on a journey guided by a planned curriculum of workshops and activities, while becoming part of a close-knit group of fellow participants.
More In Life
Upon completion of the Active 55+ Programme, they will be presented with a certificate, a testament to their continued appetite for more in life. Members will take approximately six months to complete the programme.
NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say made this announcement at the U Live Symposium held at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability.
He said: “Growing old does not mean we have to feel old. We must continue to take charge of our own life. 55+ is the new 40s’, and there is no reason why we cannot stay happy and healthy (H2), and continue to lead a productive and purposeful life (P2).
“H2P2 may sound like a virus, but it is good for us and we must make it infectious among the 155,000 members of the U Live community.”
Exciting Opportunities
Launched on July 2009, U Live is NTUC’s chapter for active agers who are 55 years and above. It started with 70,000 members and this has increased to over 155,000 now, with some 1,300 new members turning 55 every month.
This new and first structured empowerment programme will hence cater to the U Live community.
Living up to the values of the U Live community, this programme encourages members to embrace the Happy, Healthy, Productive and Purposeful (H2P2) lifestyle.
Participants can select from workshop topics ranging from health to smartphone literacy, and also look out for career and employment opportunities.
