Thank you for helping us build our homes – that was the Facebook message from NTUC Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing to migrant workers in Singapore on 18 December 2016 for International Migrants Day.

The day aims to recognise the efforts, contributions and rights of migrant workers worldwide.

Here in Singapore, the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) organised a talent show –“Our Migrant Workers Got Talent 2!” – at the Ci Yuan Community Club. The first talent show was was held in 2010.

Joining the nearly 500 migrant worker supporters and guests at the finals were NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How and Chairman of the Migrant Workers’ Centre and NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Yeo Guat Kwang.

The event was judged by two artistes from MediaCorp Vasantham,Ms R Neelambigai and Ms S Sumitra and the editor of Banglar Kantha, the only Bengali newspaper in South East Asia, Mr AKM Mohsin.

The finals was beamed direct on big screens to all the six migrant worker recreation centres.

That’s because besides the three judges, those cheering the finalists in the auditorium and those watching it at the recreation centres could also cast their votes to pick the winning participants.
