In conjunction with the Labour Movement’s ‘Appreciating U’ movement, Young NTUC kicked off its own appreciation campaign on 30 June 2014 to pay tribute to workers at the National Library.

Partnering the Young Amalgamated Union of Statutory Board Employees (AUSBE) and National Library Board, more than 50 cleaners who keep the National Library clean were thanked. Some 20 volunteers served them lunch, and distributed snack packs and NTUC FairPrice vouchers to them.

The initiative came after a series of conversations and dialogues with youth members raised the issue of respect for all workers. Young NTUC Committee Secretariat, Eric Lim, shared that these workers toiled tirelessly around the clock to ensure the environment remains clean, green and safe.

Through this event, Young NTUC hopes to inspire more young working adults to be involved in the ‘Appreciating U’ movement and cultivate greater empathy and understanding for all workers.

In conjunctions with the event, 500 bookmarks were also distributed to the public to increase the awareness of the movement. Over the next few months, Young NTUC, together with its youth chapters, will hold appreciation events for the cleaning, security, and landscape sectors.
