Media Statement
We refer to the recent spate of reports and forum letters in the media which highlighted cases of touting and over-charging by taxi drivers.
The Taxi Operators’ Associations (TOA) do not condone such behaviour and practises, and wish to point out that those who do form a small number of errant drivers who are out to make a quick profit. As a result, this minority group has created a bad name for the industry. These drivers’ irresponsible actions are unfair to the majority of drivers who have chosen to abide by the rules and make an honest living to support their families through taxi-driving.
TOA fully supports the actions taken by the Land Transport Authority and taxi companies on these culprits. We would like to encourage our members to continue to abide by the rules, and help look out for errant drivers so that they will be dealt with appropriately.
Last but not least, TOA would also like to urge the drivers to continue providing a high level of taxi service in Singapore.
