Media Statement

1 ComfortDelGro Corporation had announced that it will be adjusting its taxi fare structure with effect from 17 December 2007.  Among the fare revisions, the flag-down rate will be increased from the current $2.50 to $2.80, and the peak city area surcharge will be increased from $1 to $3. This surcharge is payable on Mondays to Saturdays, between 5pm and midnight.  The time and distance formula will also be adjusted.

2 ComfortDelGro has been in discussion with the Comfort Taxi Operators’ Association (CTOA) and CityCab Operators’ Association (CCOA), two of the six Taxi Operators’ Associations (TOA), over the fare revision issue in the past few months.

3 In view of the rapidly rising operating cost, especially the price of diesel and the increase in the Goods and Services Tax, TOA has been urging all taxi companies to increase their taxi metre fares.  TOA feels that the revision is a fair and timely decision.

4 TOA believes that overall taxi metre fare should reflect the operating cost of the taxi business, and the primary consideration is the income stability of the taxi drivers when fare adjustments are made.  TOA urges the other taxi companies to adjust their taxi fares as soon as possible.

Foo Chi Yong, President, Premier Taxi Operators’ Association
