Taxi Operators' Associations' (TOA) 10th anniversary
22 July 2007
Joint Media Release
1 To mark Taxi Operators’ Associations’ (TOA) 10th anniversary, TOA is collaborating with NTUC Income to launch Enhanced Incomeshield for its members to address the specific needs of taxi drivers.
2 TOA is concerned about its members (taxi drivers) not being adequately protected from large, unexpected hospital expenses. A recent survey by TOA revealed that 53% of its members are covered by Medishield only or not insured at all. As many of them are sole bread winners of their families, a sudden or unexpected large bill could have serious implications on their families.
3. To ensure that the Taxi drivers and their family members are adequately protected against medical expenses, TOA has worked with NTUC Income to introduce a comprehensive, portable medical insurance
4. The key features of Enhanced Incomeshield are:
a. Members can get comprehensive coverage for hospitalisation expenses.
b. The offer is extended to members’ families; immediate family members can also be covered.
c. Portability – Incomeshield is a portable medical policy and the coverage will not be affected if one discontinues as a taxi driver.
d. Other insurers may cap the medical coverage but Enhanced Incomeshield is on “as charged” basis which pays on the cost actually incurred
e. The insurance is for lifetime coverage, and there is no lifetime limit on the amount one can claim under the plan.
5. TOA members will enjoy special incentive rates which are pegged to their membership tenure if they sign up for themselves.
6. The Enhanced Incomeshield is an additional benefit to a comprehensive suit of benefits already provided by TOA to its members. TOA Big Walk Cum Family Day is the first event to kick off a series of celebration for the 10th anniversary of TOA. In the following months, there will be TOA Masters Bowling Championship, Taxi Idol Singing Competition and the 10th Anniversary Dinner to mark a significant milestone of TOA,
