In celebration of Mother’s Day, the taxi leaders from National Taxi Association (NTA) brought cheers to women patients and visitors at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) on 9 May 2014.
NTA taxi leaders distributed some 500 stalks of carnations to women patients and visitors at the hospital. Led by NTA’s Women Chapter, NTA female taxi drivers also provided free taxi ride to about 10 subsidised-patients who had just given birth, to bring their newborns home from the hospital. These patients were identified by KKH.
Ms Irene Kee, one of the female activist with NTA Women’s Chapter was the one who mooted the idea. She said, “As a mother myself, I thought it would be really meaningful if we could do our part to make Mother’s Day special for these female patients at the hospital, at the same time do our part for the more needy ones.”
Making it more meaningful – Collaboration with Bizlink, NTUC U Family
To make the effort more special and meaningful, NTA purchased the carnations from Bizlink, a non-profit organization that provides employment services for disadvantaged people, especially the disabled. NTUC U Family also sponsored free diaper bags and their “Project Liquid Gold” milk kit comprising a breastfeeding door hanger, milk bottle label, desk sign to the 10 mums who returned home today with their babies.
NTA Executive Adviser Mr Ang Hin Kee added, “During this May Day period, our female cabbies want to thank their customers. Many of them are also mothers themselves and this is a small gesture to bring cheers to mothers on such an important occasion. We are glad to have the support of Bizlink, KKH and NTUC U Family to make this event possible.”
