The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) believes strongly that family forms an integral part of the society and strong family bonds will help NTUC members to achieve happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. NTUC Membership held a unique fun walk event under the “Discover the Power of U” initiative for families on Sunday, 15 July at the Orchid Country Club.
Over 700 union members and their families and friends took part in a 1.6 km fun-walk at the golf course flagged off by Guest of Honour, NTUC President, Ms Diana Chia. This is the first time the Labour Movement holds a family bonding event of such scale at a golf course in Singapore, which is made possible only as Orchid Country Club is a part of the Labour Movement.
The event provides a rare opportunity for many to set foot on the golf course for the first time and walk on the designated trail around the golf course, dotted with fun stops. Participants also won attractive prizes including the new iPad, day passes to Universal Studios Singapore, hotel stays, etc. at the event. There were delectable food stalls, exciting aqua activities, and challenging games such as archery for all to take part in while enjoying quality bonding time with their families and friends.
Participants at the event also set the Singapore Book of Records for the largest collage, called the “Big Picture for U”, made with pieces of colored paper, witnessed by officials from the Singapore Book of Records.
Mr. Vivek Kumar, Director, NTUC Membership, said, “NTUC now has over 690,000 3-gen members. Our new strategy is to help them Discover the Power of U - the Labour Movement, in most unique ways. This opportunity to walk the Golf Course with one's family would be a first-ever for many, including myself! Participants would be able to discover ethnic performances, in a rather unusual setting of a Golf Course. Power of U would continue to enthrall NTUC Members in coming months with excitements such as a U Grand Prix Party, a U Picnic, & a U Mega Dance”.
