TOA expresses concerns of effects of new ERP policies over drivers' livelihood
31 January 2008
Joint Media Statement
Transport Minister Raymond Lim had announced yesterday that more ERP gantries will be set up and that the existing ERP charges will be increased. The Taxi Operators?Associations (TOA) are very concerned that the livelihood of drivers will be severely affected by the new policy.
We would like to urge Taxi Companies to help their drivers promote the use of taxi service more aggressively. We also hope that the recent 15 minutes ERP reimbursement introduced by Comfort to encourage drivers to come into the CBD will continue, and that all companies will give similar rebates to help their drivers.
For drivers, they need to maintain high service standards and provide quality service so that commuters will be willing to use and pay for their service. The TOA has taken the lead together with our tripartite partners to embark on Customer-Centric Initiatives for the Taxi Industry to help elevate industry-wide service standards.
We are of the view that taxis should be positioned as a complement to public transport as it provides premium point-to-point service and reduces the need to own private cars.
