Close to 2,500 supply chain and logistics employees will benefit from new skills and training.

This comes after the Supply Chain Employees’ Union (SCEU) signed agreements to form company training committees (CTCs) with six of its unionised companies on 24 October 2019 at the union’s inaugural General Delegates’ Conference (GDC).

The companies are Kuehne + Nagel, Haulio, ST Logistics, YCH Group, Hitachi Transport System (Asia) and Pacific International Lines.

The CTCs will be led by both management and union leaders, according to SCEU. The two will coordinate efforts to enhance the productivity and implement training plans to close skills development gaps of the employees.

Working Together

“When our branch officials go back to their various branches to work with management on various projects, most importantly the CTCs, we hope we can strengthen the bond we have now more than ever, given the disruptions and challenges we see in the industry,” said SCEU Protem President Ganesan Arasapam in his address to about 100 delegates, observers and management partners.

Senior Minister of State for Health and Transport Lam Pin Min was guest of honour at the GDC. He urged tripartite partners to work more closely together as “global uncertainties weigh on Singapore's economic performance, and rapid technological advancements and the ageing population reshape jobs.”

“To spur the growth of the industry, our companies must also seize new opportunities through internationalisation, innovation and investing in the workforce. Digital connectivity is an increasingly important dimension needed to support internationalisation, and many companies are making good progress on this front,” said Mr Lam.
