With the ongoing Novel Coronavirus situation in Singapore, the Government has encouraged the public to practice good personal hygiene and wear a mask only if they are unwell. To support this nationwide initiative and workers on the front-line together with vulnerable groups, Raduga Pte Ltd, a global distributor of telecommunications equipment has donated 126,500 mask to the National Trades Union Congress for distribution to several locations.

What was supposed to be the first engagement meeting between Raduga and the Supply Chain Employees’ Union to discuss on ways to collaborate in terms of training and upskilling, took a pleasant turn as Raduga shared that they would like to donate surgical masks to NTUC for distribution to the following locations:

a. Air Transport sector (Unions involved – Air Transport Executive Staff Union, Dnata Singapore Staff Union, Singapore Airport Terminal Services Workers’ Union, SIA Engineering Company Engineers and Executives Union,  Singapore Airlines Staff Union and Scoot Tigerair Staff Union)
b. Tan Tock Seng Hospital, National University Hospital and Singapore General Hospital (Unions involved – Healthcare Services Employees’ Union)
c. NTUC Health Nursing Homes and daycare centers

General Manager (GM) of Raduga, Cheong Jin Hao shared “In this trying time where WHO has declared the 2019 Coronavirus a global health emergency, Raduga firmly stand behind Singapore and commit to actively contribute to combat/contain this virus. We are fortunate to be in a position where we can make use of Raduga’s, as well as our friends’ global networks, to secure supply of quality masks for vulnerable groups of people who are in need such as the elderly, health care workers and front-line staff who might not be able to get ready supply. We will continue to tap on our network and resources to source for more masks, as well as other protective essential items, and work closely with the government and agencies to contribute and do our part for Singapore.”

NTUC Secretary-General (NTUC SG) Ng Chee Meng said ‘I am heartened to see our businesses coming forward to support our workers and our community. I want to thank Raduga for their mask donation that will benefit our workers. It is in times like this that we see even more clearly the strong tripartite bonds forged.  NTUC and our unions, the Government, and employers will do what is necessary to help our workers. What we need to do is to stay calm, practice good hygiene to stay healthy and keep business continuity.”

Later this afternoon, NTUC SG Ng Chee Meng and Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Mr Kevin Shum will receive the masks from Raduga’s GM, Mr Cheong and kick-start the distribution of the first batch of masks to frontline airport workers such as passenger service agents manning the check-in counters, information counter officers, ground concierge staff and taxi coordinators. More than 500 staff in Changi Airport will be getting these masks. As part of broader efforts to support the air transport community, CAAS has been working closely with NTUC, unions as well as employers within the air transport sector to understand their challenges and source for solutions to mitigate the impact on the sector during this period.

Mr Shum said, “We are committed to ensure that the airport is a safe workplace for our airport workers. To stay healthy and protect themselves, all airport workers are encouraged to practice good personal hygiene. Together with the aviation community, we have the resilience to overcome this situation.”
