Subramanian Kaniappan, vice-president of Amalgamated Union of Public Daily Rated Workers, Comrade of Labour
Mr Subramanian Kaniappan has been a union member since 1999. His journey in the Labour Movement began on 25 September 2002 in the Amalgamated Union of Public Daily Rated ... (AUPDRW), before being elected vice-president of AUPDRW on 25 June 2011.
Mr Subramaniam has carefully built a strong bipartite relationship with the management of the National Environment Agency (NEA).
When NEA was re-designing and upgrading the job of workman special services to special grade driver (grave digging excavator), he worked with the Choa Chu Kang cemetery manager to help daily-rated employees through the transition..
Leading by example, he took on courses to improve his productivity and skills. It is his relationship with the management that has seen him able to help union members with workplace issues such as grievances about training courses.
At the union level, Mr Subramanian serves the Bursary Committee and the Care and Share Vouchers Disbursement Committee, which help members to apply for and receive U-Stretch and U Care Back to School vouchers. In his role in the Welfare Committee, he goes all out to help others claim death and hospitalisation benefits.
