“Having an additional skill doesn’t necessarily need to be something you earn from, but an interest that enriches your life. This initiative allows us to take up interests we may not previously have the time for. But I believe while $500 is a good incentive for people to be motivated to take up these courses, the most important motivation has to be from within.”

Nauar Kuswadi, 22, fresh graduate

“This a good initiative that allows for the multi-skilling of the workforce and preparing for the future. It also will go a long way in progression and increased productivity. However, while this will help the PMETs (Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians) in diversifying their portfolios, I do hope that there are also courses for fresh grads to benefit from, in terms of learning how to get a good start in their careers and create the necessary networks."

Clio Sit, 25, Public Relations accounts executive

“It’s a good opportunity for people trying to re-enter the workforce to learn new skills and find new interests to pursue. It will provide good motivation to people to learn new skills. While business and entrepreneurship classes would be relevant, classes for performing arts like dancing are something I would want to try, if given the chance.”

Bertram Yang, 27, self-employed

“I look forward to it because you get to learn something new. This initiative will give Singaporeans the flexibility to manoeuvre around and explore their options. Personally, I would like to learn more coding skills. I believe it is relevant as Singapore is transforming into a tech hub, especially with more start-ups popping up everywhere.”
