Ong Hao Jie, 26, Kitchen Assistant

“I found finding a job especially hard when I left National Service and have used Jobs Bank for job searching. Finding this post within the F&B industry was not planned but now, it has opened my eyes to exploring more avenues within the industry. So although the initiatives may seem to not be helpful at first effort, keeping an open mind is important as opportunities come in different ways.”

Koh Thien Hoe, 58, Store Assistant

“I have seen my friends around me get jobs easier now because of initiatives like the Fair Consideration Framework (FCF) and I think it is good that the Government is helping to prioritise the workforce. To those who are still unemployed, I think it is a case of being proactive enough on part of the individual. The resources are there to be used and Singaporeans must learn to make use of them.”

Megat Shahrom Abbul, 34, Senior Personal Trainer

“The Government initiatives have helped Singaporeans for sure, as I have seen my friends benefitting.  My industry, however, is foreigner dominated, but I sense that with my passion, skill and drive, customers still want me to train them.”

Tanzin Iqbal Anik, 30, Sales Account Manager

“I think it is favourable (to build the Singapore core) as initiatives like the Fair Consideration Framework help drive forth Singaporean employment in not just SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises), but also in Multinational Corporations. I have been working in Singapore for around half a decade now and the healthy balance between expatriate and local is what keeps the workforce vibrant and competitive. So, it is always good to endeavour for healthy inclusion in every sense.”

Vanessa Joyce Bautista, 25, Management Trainee

“I have worked in Singapore for around four years now and being in the presence of Singaporeans in my line of work, I can understand and support the push as they are very hardworking. It is the basic right of a citizen to be given priority in his or her own country as well.”

Did You Know?

The Fair Consideration Framework (FCF) is aimed at strengthening the Singaporean core by setting clear expectations from the Government to all companies in Singapore with regards to prioritising Singaporean employment through the practice of fair consideration. This is done through the companies’ compliance to the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices.

Since August last year, employers are required to advertise job vacancies on the Jobs Bank administered by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) before submitting Employment Pass (EP) applications for approval.

If you are a Singaporean looking for a job, log on to https://www.jobsbank.gov.sg/ for more details.
