Who’s out and about almost the whole day and night when others may be taking refuge at home over these hazy days? There are workers who have no choice because their work takes them outdoors, and taxi drivers fall into this category.
About 1,500 taxi drivers got some help today when 20 taxi drivers, who are also leaders of the National Taxi Association (NTA), headed down to various taxi queue stands at Changi Airport Terminals to personally deliver N95 masks. Each driver received two masks, bottled water and a note to remind them to take care of their health and keep watch of the haze readings.
“We are happy that Changi Airport Group supported us in the distribution of masks across four terminals to 1,500 taxi drivers. It is heartening that taxi drivers are helping one another to fight the haze and take care of their health,” said NTA Advisor Ang Hin Kee, who helped with the distribution.
NTA taxi leader Foo Chi Yong added: “As taxi drivers, we are susceptible to weather conditions which impact both our health and our income. More Singaporeans might choose to stay at home and we might fall sick due to the bad air. We hope that the simple gesture of giving out masks to taxi drivers raises some awareness that we need to take care of our own health, so that we remain healthy and can continue to earn an income on the roads.”
