Good morning.
In 2004, we set in motion redevelopment plans for Ang Mo Kio Town Centre. Today, Ang Mo Kio residents and businesses are enjoying the fruition of those plans. AMK Hub has transformed our estate. This is indeed a very happy occasion for all of us.
Ang Mo Kio is a mature housing estate with a thirty-year history. Although over the years, Ang Mo Kio had grown as a neighbourhood complete with community facilities like schools, shops, markets and hawker centres, the town centre was in need of rejuvenation. AMK Hub has brought about that rejuvenation.
There are over 200 commercial outlets in AMK Hub. Residents of Ang Mo Kio are now able to enjoy many retail, F&B and leisure activities in this modern, seven-storey shopping complex. AMK Hub has indeed become a vibrant community space for our residents to shop, eat, play, or simply soak in the buzz and energy with their family and friends.
AMK Hub comes complete with an integrated, air-conditioned bus interchange and underground link to the MRT station. Everyday, about 70,000 people converge here. For merchants and businesses, this increase in customer traffic to Ang Mo Kio Town Centre means brisk business.
Therefore, on behalf of the Ang Mo Kio community, I would like to thank the Singapore Labour Foundation, NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited and NTUC FairPrice Co-operative Limited for jointly developing this much-anticipated retail mall in our heartland.
We also welcome the presence of the seven NTUC social enterprises in AMK Hub. Our residents will definitely benefit from the quality products and services that NTUC social enterprises make available to the man in the street at affordable prices.
As part of the official opening celebrations, AMK Hub has organized fund-raising activities. The proceeds will go towards three beneficiaries in Ang Mo Kio. We thank AMK Hub and the residents of Ang Mo Kio for your generosity and support. Your kind donation will definitely help make lives better and bring cheer to the Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre, MINDS Yio Chu Kang Gardens School and AWWA Elderly Services.
AMK Hub has organized many interesting activities as part of the official opening celebrations. I wish all our residents a fun and enjoyable weekend.
