3 August 2017: The South West Community Development Council (CDC) launched a set of 20 key initiatives to future-proof its community.

Collectively known as SWFuture Plan, the initiatives seek to increase awareness of SkillsFuture, promote philanthropy, support caregivers and conserve natural resources.

“We are refreshing the structure of our seven south west district councils to align with our national priorities on addressing evolving social needs and preparing our people for the digital economy. We have formed a new SkillsFuture functional committee to help our residents realise the benefits and potential from the different SkillsFuture initiatives and programmes open to them,” said South West District Mayor Low Yen Ling.

At the launch event, panellists from the academic, Government and corporate sectors weighed in on ways to further the agenda. Among them were South West CDC Vice-Chairman and NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay and CEO of NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Gilbert Tan.

Mr Tan said: “I think there are a few challenges that SkillsFuture hopes to close. One of them is what to train. If you are in school, you can ask the counsellors. If you are not, you can look for Workforce Singapore or e2i. We hope to bring more of such intervention into community events so you can better understand your skills, know how to make the best use of your $500 credits and get jobs.”
