Upon receiving her new role as Senior Executive, Motor Department, in NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited, Ms Yap realised that customers were distressed upon receiving a Writ of Summons for claims arising from accidents they were involved in. She went the extra mile to reassure affected customers on how NTUC Income would help protect their rights, and this practice has now become a standard operating procedure in the company.

Close to Ms Yap’s heart is also increasing staff satisfaction. She has constantly looked for ways to help improve the lives of her colleagues by encouraging them to develop new skills in order to progress in their careers. She also counselled a colleague who was going through depression and ensured that she did not lose her job. These efforts have paid off with the colleague’s eventual full recovery and good work performance.

Helping others ride out an unpleasant situation

Orange Force Rider and Team Leader Noor Asreen Mohd Arif (third from left) was on a routine patrol with his colleague on the Pan-Island Expressway one morning when they saw an elderly couple who had met with an accident. The couple’s motorcycle skidded due to the slippery and wet road after a heavy downpour and no one stopped to help them.

As the husband and wife were deaf and mute, Mr Asreen communicated with them by writing on his notepad and attended to their safety and well-being. The Orange Force Riders applied first aid to the couple’s cuts and abrasions and called for an ambulance. The riders also got in touch with the couple's family members as they were in too much of a shock to do so. When the Traffic Police arrived, the riders helped them to provide a statement.

As she was being assisted into the ambulance, the wife gave a big two thumbs-up sign, a gesture that touched deep into Mr Asreen’s heart and reaffirmed his mission to serve people.
