Meet (from left) Mdm Fu Yit Moi, Mdm Yasmine Lee and Mdm Lau Siu Hong.
For the last 16 years, the trio have been part of the team of cleaners who ensure that staff at HDB Hub in Toa Payoh come in to an office that’s clean and tidy.
“We feel very happy to be treated special today. It really is very wonderful to be appreciated like this,” said 67-year-old Mdm Lee, who has been working with HDB for the last 15 years.
“This is very good,” concurred 72-year-old Mdm Lau. “I feel very happy to be here with so many people and have a meal together with all of them.”
Adding on, Mdm Fu, 75, said: “This is great because I get to enjoy being together with friends. It’s very rare for us all to be together like this as we are usually busy working.”
In appreciation of all their efforts, the Housing and Development Board Staff Union (HDBSU) and HDB management partners organised a special lunch treat for some 80 cleaners on 9 November 2018. Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran, who is also advisor to HDBSU, also attended as guest-of-honour.
We stopped by to capture the happy and heart-warming event in photos.
Dubbed “Appreciating Our Cleaning Crew”, the event saw Mr Iswaran joining HDB management on the other side of the buffet line to serve food as a gesture of their appreciation.
Having worked with HDB for decades, many of the cleaning staff have built up close friendships with each other, and HDB staff.
An annual event organised in collaboration by HDBSU and HDB, this year's event saw a total of 77 cleaners joined by union leaders, HDB staff and management partners for lunch.
